Rocks and Cruz Plaza Lab


Quartz

 Quartz is the second most abundant mineral in the Earth's crust. There are several different types of quartz found in the earth's crust. It is made up of silicon - oxygen tetrahedra (SiO4).

Sandstone

 Sandstone is mainly made up of sand-sized minerals or rock grains. Since quartz is the second most abundant mineral, quartz can be found in sandstone. Lastly, sandstone is considered a sedimentary rock.

Granite

Granite is part of the igneuous rock group. Granite has many differet colors because of the different types of mixtures of minerals and other stuff that it is mixed with. It is often used for counter tops in kitchens and bathrooms.

 Schist

Schist is a coarse grained metamorphic rock. It has the tendency to split into layers because of all of the minerals in the rock. It also consist of many minerals such as quartz.


What are 3 things contractors have to consider while building the Cruz Plaza
  1. They have to account that there are people on campus during construction.
  2. They have to consider all the other buildings around the canstrustion site.
  3. Consider erotion and how to deal with it.
